Richard Boon is a Shooting Director, camera operator and Steadicam operator with credits on productions currently streaming on Netflix, Apple TV and Amazon Prime.

Richard co-produced and shot documentary ‘Ten Dollar Death Trip’ which in 2022 has featured on Netflix and Apple TV, as well as being picked up for segments of John Oliver’s show ‘Last Week Tonight’.

Richard’s latest project was to DOP and produce the UK portion of a £1million commercial for Einhell and Mercedes AMG F1 featuring Toto Wolf. This was commissioned by Pullover Films, Germany.

In 2019 he became 2nd Unit director on 'Amaranthine', a sci-fi action film directed by Charles Henri Belleville. In 2020 he was Steadicam operator on feature film ‘Abomination’ a comedy horror, pitched as Frankenstein meets Scooby Doo. Even more recently he has worked as Steadicam operator on Indian British feature film ‘Operation Mayfair’ with Indian star talent Jimmy Shergill.

Richard is a London based cinematographer most well known for filming hard-hitting documentaries, covering drugs, political unrest and religious fanatics. Often filming in conflict zones such as Palestine, Somalia and parts of Nigeria. His background in vertical/water guiding as well as certifications in wilderness first aid has had him come to be known as a formidable team member to have in risky environments.

After a year of training with 3IC, Richard became a commercially licensed drone pilot, and since has completed commercial operations across Norway, Spain, Nigeria, Somalia, France, Djibouti, Egypt, Italy, and all over the UK.

Though his experience goes back to film school in Bristol in 2008, Richard didn’t begin as a DOP or shooting PD until his return to the UK in 2015. Prior to that Richard lived in Spain, Thailand and China, as a sport photographer, film maker and adventure guide for all things vertical, snow & water based. His background in ski/snowboard instruction and running DOE awards, also make him a strong team member for wildlife & extreme sport filming.

Richard is available for hire as both as a shooting PD, DOP, Steadicam operator and drone operator with a long list of credits. His passion and drive help make stunning stories come to life.
